Modem dials in and out when Outlook Express is opened or closed
In Outlook Express, click Tools, Options and on the Options dialog box select the Connection tab. Check under Internet Connection Settings that Outlook Express shares the same settings as Internet Explorer. Under DialUp, 'Hang up after sending and receiving' should be unchecked. Close the Options dialog box. BR> Now click on Tools, Accounts, select the Mail tab and click on your mail account from the list. Click Properties, then select the Connection tab. Uncheck the checkbox, then click ok. If you have more than one web connection set up on your PC, leaving this box checked will cause Express to disconnect and then reconnect if, at the time of starting a mail send and receive, you are using the other connection. If Freeserve is your sole ISP, you should only have one internet connection defined anyway. From My Computer, open Dial-Up Networking and look to see what connection icons are present. If you have an icon for an old ISP, or have two icons both of which connect to Freeserve, delete the redundant one. If you actually have more than one ISP for a good reason, and if you use mail accounts with each ISP, you may actually need Outlook Express to connect to the appropriate service provider to send and receive messages. In that case, the best bet is to disable 'Send and receive messages at startup' on the General tab of the Options dialog box (this is usually a good idea for dialup connections anyway). You can then manually initiate a send and receive for each account. This way, Outlook Express will only make or break a connection when you tell it to. | |||
